I am a pastor and sometimes author living in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I am a husband to Lyra, father to two boys and a girl. I love reading and writing almost as much as I love a long quiet walk in the woods. What really gets me excited is helping people to have more full and meaningful lives. I look around and see a lot of sorrow, confusion and mistrust in the world. I think there are ways we can begin to move out of ourselves and into the world with a sense expectation and hope. I also think the world needs a whole lot more of those two things right now.
If you are in town, I would love to get to know you. I work at Corinth Reformed Church, and am there almost every Sunday morning and quite a bit most other days as well.
Some of my writings are below. And I always like to say, if there’s anything I can do for you, please let me know.
Dance of Freedom was the fist book I wrote, It’s the story of life and death of my Mom. The lessons I learned from both were too poignant and beautiful not to share. Writing this book was my effort at the time to both process and share my own suffering. Now, it’s my hope that it will help you to process yours or just find beauty in the world around you.
What we Believe and why it Matters is an honest and gracious look into the core beliefs of most Christians since the 1500’s. I find that even though we strange people will fight and argue over obscure and often debatable doctrines, sometimes we can’t explain why it matters so much. This is an exploration and explanation of some of those things.
The Redemption of Judah is eight short readings through the life of a truly messed up dude in the ancient near east who would go on to be an ancestor of Jesus. His story proves that you don’t always have to have it all together to learn how to find beauty and mystery around the corner.
